Make an entrance
A welcoming hallway will get you and your guests into the festive spirit. There’s enough time to order a new stair runner, paint walls and the banisters. If your lighting scheme is looking tired, a statement chandelier will add instant impact. Spruce up the outside too with a lick of paint on the door and new door furniture.

Boutique style
Your downstairs cloakroom needs to be a functional space to store guests’ coats, bags and shoes. If you’re looking to update it, then channel boutique hotel style with opulent wallpaper, a new vanity unit and wall lights.

Time for dinner
Much of your Christmas entertaining will be spent around the dining table. If you have only the time and budget to upgrade just one space, make it this one. A sturdy dining table and chairs will always be a good investment – try out the chairs for comfort before you buy. Add in a drinks cabinet for a luxurious touch. Vintage finds, meanwhile, can add character.

Beautiful bedrooms
Whether you’re after Scandi vibes or dark and atmospheric, a bedroom update can be done before Christmas. Wall panelling and fluted textures can transform a room, adding interest. Or be brave and bring in some bold wallpaper. Small updates can be equally effective with new lamps and bedside tables. Add some layering for bedding with velvets, boucle and linen.
