One of the many joys of living in London is discovering what lies close to your front door.  In my corner of South West London, I am spoilt for choice. First of all, the landscape; the abundant Commons of Wimbledon and Putney, the glorious Thames weaving through the city like a ribbon with a dedicated path along its edge allowing visitors to gaze adoringly as it reflects the changing light of the day.  But also, the variety of things to do, places to go.  Having lived in SW18 for decades, I have only recently walked through the doors of the Half Moon Pub to enjoy its music offering and was left wondering what took me so long.  I wouldn’t want you to be in the same boat so if the Half Moon is still a stranger to you, don’t delay getting acquainted with it.

This iconic live music venue has been around since the sixties hosting many firsts including U2’s first sellout UK concert, KD Lang’s first UK appearance and Kate Bush’s first public show. What makes it so very special is not only a live music show every night of the week but that on Mondays, which is when I first visited, it’s “New Moon” night showcasing new music acts many of whom have never performed to an audience before.  On average, 4 different artists feature so that the odds are that everyone will find something that suits their style.  For only £2.50, I think this is the most fun one can have on a Monday evening. A few days later I was back to enjoy a Carole King and James Taylor tribute, still at a very reasonable £9 per ticket.  A less excitable crowd than a Monday but who can resist classics as good as this.
