Winner of ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’ at the Emmy Awards, Ted Lasso is returning for its fourth season this August. The season begins following Ted’s return from Kansas City, with the characters back to the beautiful scenes of Richmond.
When Jason Sudeikis (actor and producer of Ted Lasso) and his team began the show, Richmond was nominated as their chosen setting as it encapsulates London’s iconic beauty while still offering that charming community feel that drives the more heart-warming elements of the series.
Connecting the main high street to The Green, you will find Paved Court, a cosy cobblestone alleyway of boutique shops, cafes and galleries. Number 11A of the street features Ted’s quirky 9 1/2 apartment, found just above the show’s merchandise store. This area has provided many of the most iconic shots in the show, including the scene of Ted’s return in the new season’s trailer.
The show’s ‘Crown & Anchor pub’ uses the exterior of The Prince’s Head – described by Brendan Hunt (co-creator of the show) as the “perfect English pub.” The pub welcomes fans, with a corner dedicated to AFC Richmond shirts and autographed photos of cast members.
This is located at the end of Paved Court overlooking Richmond Green – a quiet recreation area in the centre of the town. The Green dates back to the medieval period with its original purpose as a jousting arena, later becoming a frequently used sight for some of the earliest cricket matches. It now provides a delightful picnic spot for the summer months.
It is worth spending some time in this area in order to make the most of the beauty of Richmond as captured by the show. There you will find Gelateria Danieli on the Green – an artisan cafe famous for its thick hot chocolate and made on-site Italian gelato.

Slightly further outside this area are many other restaurants and pubs worth visiting. The Roebuck is Richmond’s oldest pub above the town’s famous Turner viewpoint on Richmond Hill: a stunning location overlooking the natural landscape, as featured in Turner’s 1808 painting ‘View of Richmond Hill and Bridge’. It makes for a great spot to watch the sun set after a day of exploration – and was used as a backdrop in Ted Lasso. Further down is Stein’s, an authentic Bavarian riverside restaurant serving traditional German dishes and beers, its outdoor seating keeps you nicely exposed to Richmond’s stunning views.
Branching into the wider London area, there’s the impressive Rivoli Ballroom (over in Crofton Park, SE4) the venue of the AFC Richmond Charity Gala in Season 1 Episode 4. The original 1950s venue now features dance nights, live music and vintage film screenings, and is worth a visit for its decadent interior design. The ballroom has previously been used for music videos from stars such as Tina Turner and Elton John, as well as various photoshoots for bands like Oasis.
Many staple moments in the show take place in the AFC Richmond football ground, splitting across Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park stadium (the fictional ‘Nelson Road’ in the series). Scenes of the team’s training ground take place in the SkyEX Community Stadium, home to the Hayes and Yeading Football Club. This is located just north of Heathrow Airport where you can catch a match during the season.
