Review: Sabrina Carpenter at BST Hyde Park
Sabrina Carpenter dazzles with spectacular headline performances over two nights at BST Hyde Park.

When it comes to the biggest names in world music, few are bigger than American singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter.
It has felt as if the ‘Espresso’ hitmaker has constantly been in the headlines in the entertainment world with chart-topping hits, countless viral trends and her fair share of controversy.
Sabrina Carpenter shows her star power as she sold out two nights at BST Hyde Park, performing to over 130,000 people over the weekend.
The singer-songwriter opened her set with ‘Taste,’ ‘Good Graces’ and ‘Slim Pickins’ and it was instantly clear that this was a pop star at the top of her game who wanted to give the fans a night to remember. It was a visually striking show that complemented her style of Pop music perfectly with bright, sparkly lights and high-octane choreography and fun interludes that kept the audience entertained throughout.
Sabrina Carpenter took time out of the show by asking the London crowd to howl like a dog or a wolf. Thousands joined in and I wondered what this was all about. Is this usual for pop concerts? It all made sense when she introduced legendary 80s group Duran Duran to perform ‘Hungry Like the Wolf.’
Simon Le Bon and Andy Taylor came out for a great duet with the American. Le Bon’s vocals sounded just as good as they did in the ’80s.

Even before her big breakthrough to the mainstream, Sabrina Carpenter had been in the limelight for a long time. This was clear throughout the show as she is such a natural performer and felt at home on the stage. Her energy and enthusiasm were definitely repaid by the fans in attendance as she exclaimed, “Wow, no one warned me about a Sunday crowd!”
One of the highlights of the evening was Carpenter’s performance of ‘Please Please Please’, which became a viral hit. The singer-songwriter walked up and down the runway whilst singing as the crowd echoed word for word.
Before ending the show with a thrilling rendition of ‘Espresso’ with a fireworks display, Carpenter performed ‘Don’t Smile’ whilst being lifted over the crowd on a crane.
Sabrina Carpenter is set to release her hotly anticipated album, ‘Man’s Best Friend’, on August 29. It feels inevitable that if the star continues her upward trajectory, her next shows in London could fill out stadiums!
