Review: Thai Square Spa

A spa in a former Victorian bathhouse piqued our curiosity…

Thai Square Spa is a city retreat hidden below Northumberland Avenue. The site is, fittingly, in a former Victorian bathhouse… and it’s an atmospheric spot indeed.

The treatment rooms are reached via an ornate passageway lit with flickering faux candles and decorated with buddhas. A fragrant Thai herbal tea and traditional floral foot bath further sets the relaxing tone before your treatment, from which you can choose from a range of massages, facials and body treatments. I was here for the Signature Wrap, designed as a pre-holiday boost. The ritual began with iMantara’s Siamese Serenity Refining Body Polish, gently exfoliating and smoothing the skin, followed by a nourishing Rebalancing Body Mask. My skin was left silky smooth.

Afterwards, I chilled in the Roman-style relaxation area before exploring the Sen Space. It’s an intimate calm spot with numbers capped at six per session. I had it to myself. There’s a Jacuzzi pool underneath a pretty mosaic archway, with an equally delightful steam room next to it; a sauna, and an ice fountain so you can alternate between hot and cold experiences. I couldn’t resist pausing in the Thai relaxation area when I’d finished, which is beautifully designed.

Restored from my morning’s pampering, I stepped back out into the sweltering city streets. A good spot to know when the summer madness in London gets too much.
