Dalchini: A Summer Escape into Indo-Chinese Flavour

Where Wimbledon locals and city diners meet over vibrant summer cocktails and Indo-Chinese spice.

As the days grow longer and London warms into its gentler season, Dalchini in Wimbledon offers the perfect retreat — a serene, fragrant space where Indo-Chinese cuisine takes centre stage. Established in 2000, the restaurant remains one of the few in the UK to serve this bold, flavourful style of cooking born in Kolkata’s Hakka Chinese community —where fiery Indian spices meet delicate Chinese techniques.

Refurbished in chic art deco style during lockdown, Dalchini’s emerald and blush-toned interiors feel cool and elegant – ideal for a lingering summer supper. Sunlight filters through the windows as guests sip cucumber and gin cocktails, garnished with mint and designed to refresh.

The menu is well-suited to the season: light, crisp starters such as vegetable spring rolls, prawn gyoza, and the must-try tangy mushrooms offer spice without weight. Hakka fried chicken brings heat, while mains like the lemongrass coconut fish and vegetable Manchurian offer depth and brightness in equal measure. Ginger garlic rice and stir-fried noodles complete a generous but clean feast – ideal for sharing.

Desserts keep things playful: stem ginger and vanilla ice cream with honey noodles delivers just the right amount of indulgence. Service is warm and unrushed, inviting guests to slow down – exactly what summer dining should be.

Dalchini is that rare blend of neighbourhood charm and destination quality – the perfect place to gather, graze and enjoy a global culinary journey right in the heart of London.
