Review: estiatorio Milos London

estiatorio Milos London

Head to Greece via Regent Street

Walking down Regent Street in the early evening sun and into estiatorio Milos, I felt like I’d swapped busy London for an evening in a swanky neighbourhood in Athens.

The double height interior is all white walls, white linen, and warm woods set against a black lacquered wall. It’s a chic space.

The restaurant has been serving well heeled clientele in the capital for nearly a decade. It’s part of a restaurant group founded by Greek-born chef Costas Spiliadis, with locations worldwide, including New York, Dubai and Athens.

You know from the minute you are welcomed in by the very smartly dressed staff at the door that this is going to be a high end experience and priced accordingly. On one side of the restaurant, the fish market counter groans with all manner of beautiful fish and seafood as well as a display of colourful vegetables.

We were there to check out the pre-theatre set menu and my FOMO kicked in as I passed the beautiful display as clearly one of the highlights of the restaurant is to pick what you want to eat from the counter.

However, the pre-theatre menu is just £32 for three courses, so it would be churlish to grumble. Choices to start include lentil salad with salmon, a Crete style salad or sashimi quality octopus. We opted for the octopus, which came served Santorini fava. It was a generous mound of tender super-fresh grilled octopus that worked well with the humous-like fava.

For mains, you can upgrade to lobster pasta for an extra £15 or go for the likes of dorade or steak brochette. I asked how the dorade was served and my mind was made up. Simple, fresh and how they typically cook it in the Med – seasoning, lemon, capers, a good slug of golden olive oil. It’s cooked on the bone, filleted and served with head and tail intact. It was utter perfection.

We also tried the filet mignon brochette – this was a big tender hunk of the prime cut and cooked rare as requested. Served simply with fries and tzatziki, it was another winner.

Dessert was simple. Baklava and ice cream, a walnut cake, fresh fruit. We tried the baklava, a perfect sweet treat. And the fresh fruit – a generous amount.

At £32, this has got to be one of the best-value pre-theatre menus in the West End.

I loved the vibe – chic yet friendly and relaxed. A slice of high-end Mediterranean life, perfect for when your holiday seems just too far away.

I will be back for both the set menu and for dining a la carte from the fish market: it looks too good not to try it. Okay, so maybe my FOMO did get the better of me…

A fabulous spot to know.
