The Posture Report

Lucy Kane discovers how good posture is vital for health and wellbeing

Hunched over our phones, collapsed on the sofa or working long hours at a desk, our lifestyles can easily lead to bad posture. This ends up affecting our bodies in a myriad of ways, our heads are too far forward, hips and knees come out of alignment and we can start to get a hump neck. Being out of alignment can lead to sleepless nights, back and neck problems or lack of energy as our body is having to compensate to find a balance.

From my teenage years, my body has been compensating for youthful awkwardness and then years of bad habits and stresses have accumulated into physical problems in midlife that are affecting everyday life and even making exercise challenging.

Natalie at Spirohealth in Putney explained how we become accustomed to these physical problems and end up living with them. However, correcting our posture not only resolves sporting injuries but helps re-energise us, boosts confidence and can even resolve incontinence. The team at Spirohealth are exceptionally well qualified, and work with an ABC approach to correct your posture and teach it to maintain that going forward.

A magical floating sauna experience from The Lensbury Club

So, keen to unpick a lifetime of bad habits and get ski fit for my upcoming trip, I stepped up for the posture assessment at Spirohealth. After completing a detailed history, Natalie followed up in person to create a full report. The team took photos from all sides for the posture diary to evidence the progress report and record the improvements along my posture journey.

Spirohealth’s initial consultation includes a full assessment and doctors report, progress photographs and two treatments. I felt in very safe hands as Natalie explained what was happening to my body. The photos showed twists and curves in my spine, hips and shoulders that were out of alignment, causing the pain in my hips and knees.

After just two treatments there was a noticeable improvement in my posture. My collarbones reappeared and amazingly I could breathe into the top of my chest much more fully. There was already a shift in my hips and I’d gained more control back. Overall my energy levels are up and I’m motivated to get out exercising.

My journey hasn’t finished there, I’m excited to have more treatments in coming weeks and experience the full transformation to a perfect posture.
