Dress code check!
Check your dress codes. Confusion arises year in year out regarding the Royal Enclosure rules for Ascot. Shoulders DO NOT need to be covered, rather a minimum of two straps of at least an inch wide each. Some events have rules, others just guidance, so have a look for anything specific for your day out.
2
Outfit hire
Consider hiring your outfit. This will allow you to try different styles without the hefty price tag.
For clothing – Hurr, Loan The Look & By Rotation
For hats – The Cotswold Hat Club, Lizzie’s Hats & Jenny Roberts Millinery

Comfort matters
Practicality and comfort are key with accessories. Shoes need to get you through a long day so choose a wearable heel height and style. Talc up your feet too to help stave off blisters. With handbags I tend to favour something with a strap, especially for a day at the races as you will be on the move, with racecard, phone and champagne to juggle.
4
Prep for the weather
Plan an inclement weather backup. The great British summer can let us down with rogue rain showers and temperature drops so make sure you have a jacket, shawl, chic umbrella lined up. Even a thermal layer is sometimes called for. Gossamer thin Uniqlo HeatTechs are an excellent emergency layer. And closed toe shoes!
5
Trial your hat
If a proper hat forms part of your look, do a trial run to work out how it sits and how best to style your hair around it to show it off to its best advantage.
