As the nights draw in and the scent of mulled wine fills the air, Kingston transforms into a place alive with festive spirit. Strings of lights sweep through the streets, wooden chalets fill the Ancient Market Place, and music drifts from every corner. This year promises even more to enjoy – including light installations at All Saints Church and a brand-new app that makes it easier than ever to discover everything happening across town.
“It’s such a wonderful place for a festive experience,” says Kirsten Henly, Chief Executive of Kingston First. “The market really brings people together – whether it’s colleagues catching up after work, friends enjoying live music, or families heading into town to see the lights and our giant Christmas tree.”
Open daily (except Christmas Day) until 28 December, Kingston’s Christmas Market is at the heart of the celebrations. Wander among traditional wooden chalets and discover artisan gifts, hand-crafted decorations and seasonal produce. Warm up with a steaming hot chocolate or a cup of mulled wine while live performers take to the stage each day.
The grounds of All Saints Church will be used differently this year and will be home to selfie spots with beautiful installations, including a huge reindeer and light-up Kingston sign.

Shop, Sip and Celebrate
With more than 250 stores, a thriving collection of independents and the welcoming Bentall Centre, Kingston is a go-to destination for Christmas shopping. Much of the town centre is pedestrianised, and the train and bus stations are right on the doorstep, making it easy for a quick Christmas shop or a full festive day out. Don’t forget to take a photo beside the illuminated present as you leave the station!
Once your shopping bags are full, Kingston offers plenty of spots to relax and refuel. From cosy cafés serving coffee and cake to independent restaurants and well-loved chains, there’s something for every taste and occasion.
When the weather turns chilly, Kingston has no shortage of indoor fun. Challenge friends to a round of Smart Darts or indoor golf at Pop Playrooms, try your luck at the escape rooms, or settle in for a film at the Curzon or Odeon cinemas. And arriving this December, Urban Fun will bring shuffleboard, curling, American pool and karaoke to the mix – perfect for festive get-togethers.
Families can explore Kingston’s festive dressed streets, spotting sparkling lights and unique displays around town. Children can visit Santa’s grotto in several locations, and the Rose Theatre’s Christmas production of Cinderella promises to be magical for all ages, performed by its talented youth company alongside a professional cast.

Looking Ahead
While Christmas 2025 is set to shine, Kingston First and Kingston Council are already working on exciting regeneration projects to make the town even more welcoming year-round. Eagle Brewery Wharf is being revitalised, with Memorial Gardens next in line for improvement in the new year.
From twinkling lights to the smell of roasted chestnuts and the sound of carols in the air, Kingston offers a Christmas filled with warmth, creativity and community spirit. As Kirsten puts it: “Whether you’re coming to catch up with friends, find those last-minute gifts or spend some precious family time, Kingston always feels festive and welcoming.”
