Wimbledon Village Brunch Guide

The Wimbledon Village Brunch Guide

Put a little magic on your plate – here’s where to find the best restaurants for the ultimate Wimbledon Village brunch.

WORDS: Vinnie Renton

With the hot weather bringing us out of the house for an early morning walk on the weekends, there is no finer way to reward ourselves than going for a spot of brunch.  With the delight of Wimbledon Common on our doorstep, here are our picks for the best brunch spots surrounding Wimbledon Village:

1

Maison St Cassien

Maison St Cassien is a gem in the village. With a Mediterranean flair and a delicious selection of brunch items, including eggs Benedict, ciabatta and avocado and croque madame, the menu is full of highlights. Add to this the famous clientele including Sir Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova that have previously graced the restaurant, and it’s definitely the place to be at brunchtime!

2

Megan’s in the Village

Megan’s is a London favourite when it comes to brunch, and the establishment in the village is no exception. Their extensive selection of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, from shakshuka to the Turkish brunch plate, are always a delight. Being dog friendly also adds an attraction for the weekend walker, and so will the treats behind the counter. With brunch being served until 3pm, it’s one to know.

3

PAUL

Offering sandwiches, pastries, drinks and patisserie, PAUL can always be relied on for a yummy and satisfying brunch. Nestled right before the common, it is perfectly placed to pop in before or during a weekend stroll.

4

The Ivy Café

With its gorgeous interiors and extensive menu, few do brunch better than The Ivy. Forego your classic egg dish for the likes of truffled wild mushrooms with potato rosti and hot buttermilk pancakes with berries.

5

Gail’s Bakery

Another fantastic option for those on the go or common-bound, Gail’s churns out some of the most mouth-watering bakes around, fresh each morning. The oat milk porridge with raw honey provides a blanket of warmth on colder days and is best paired with their signature thick hot chocolate. Baked eggs and toasties are also available, but for the true gems look no further than the sweet creations on the counter.

6

The Fire Stables

With food starting at 12pm, Fire Stables is perfectly timed to ensure you reward yourself after a morning of activity, or a morning of getting out of bed. With a dedicated brunch menu with all the usual delights, Fire Stables is a very attractive alternative to the usual coffee stop.

7

Light on the Common

Offering gorgeous views of the common whilst you enjoy your food, Light on the Common certainly lives up to their name. Enjoy dishes of poached or scrambled eggs on artisanal sourdough, Turkish eggs, salt beef hash, and sauteed mushrooms and spinach on toast, alongside smoothies, pancakes, and simple sandwiches.

8

Windmill Tearooms

Amble through the village in the direction of Putney Hill and venture into Wimbledon Common. Follow the 219 through the Site of Special Scientific Interest and you’ll soon find yourself at this hidden gem. A family-run business, the café was established in 1969 and has continued to serve dog-walkers, picnic-ers and famished families ever since. Tuck into a breakfast bap before your adventure onto Putney Heath, picking up ice cream as you depart.
