Leading Independent School I Cobham, Surrey I 850 Pupils I Boys & Girls from 11-18
Reed’s School’s mission is to develop the self-esteem and self-belief of each individual child by nurturing and inspiring them within a supportive environment to develop into confident, articulate and happy young men and women. Individuals who can think critically and independently, with a global perspective and a strong moral compass, fully prepared for a rapidly changing world and with the determination and skills needed to improve it.
Reed’s is a leading HMC independent day and boarding school, providing an excellent education for around 850 pupils. Located in Cobham, Surrey, the school is blessed with a beautiful countryside setting in over 40 acres of stunning grounds with excellent transport routes, including an extensive bus service.
Announcing a new chapter
It was recently announced that Reed’s will be welcoming girls into Year 7 from September 2027 onwards in a move to becoming fully co-educational in 2031. It was a move rooted in their history – they were founded in 1813 as a school for boys and girls – and shaped by the wishes of their current parents. It builds on more than three decades of success in their current co-educational Sixth Form which is vibrant, oversubscribed and has excellent outcomes at A Level. Extending that provision to Year 7 is a natural and logical next step.
It has also been announced that Feltonfleet School, a successful Prep School also based in Cobham, is joining the Reed’s family of schools which will comprise three outstanding schools: Reed’s School (for ages 11-18), Feltonfleet School (ages 3–13), and Ripley Court School (ages 2–11), offering families a co-educational pathway from early childhood through to A Level. This brings clarity and continuity with access to excellence at every stage, and strong and natural transitions between schools.
Reflecting on the announcement, Headmaster, Mark Hoskins said: “This is an exciting moment for the community at Reed’s School, marking a significant and positive new chapter. This news builds on our strengths, honours our heritage and opens new opportunities for every family in our community. As Reed’s looks to the future, it remains committed to evolving thoughtfully while staying true to its values-based educational philosophy and its dynamic approach to teaching and learning.
A school where pupils are taught, nurtured and inspired
At Reed’s there is a culture of innovative, dynamic and progressive teaching which ensures that pupils learn because they are excited, engaged and, like their teachers, passionate and curious about the world around them.
Outstanding pastoral support underlies the very essence of school life at Reed’s and places the pupil at the heart of the school, with an emphasis on values, character, well-being and a range of experiences to provide a rounded education.
“We felt Reed’s was something very special when we visited for Open Day and we were right. You are collectively an INCREDIBLE school! Thank you for caring about every individual, for teaching resilience and bravery. We watched our ambitious daughter thrive under your care and we couldn’t be more proud. Her results are wonderful and a testament to you all and everything you give to these young adults.” – Parents of a recent Sixth Form leaver
A school built for the future, rooted in values
The facilities at Reed’s are modern, ensuring it remains at the forefront of educational provision, yet designed to maintain the warmth and sense of community that Reed’s is so well known for. A comprehensive strategic plan enables it to anticipate the needs of the school and its pupils into the future.
Core values of Integrity, Compassion, Curiosity, Resilience, Responsibility and Independence, are instilled in pupils’ characters, producing well-rounded individuals who are confident, personable, generous of spirit and deed, and who will possess a lifelong love of learning.
“We wanted to say a huge thank you to all your wonderful staff for being such a great support and inspiration to our son over the last seven years. We can’t quite believe how quickly those years have flown by! He’s grown into a young man who we are extremely proud of, and Reed’s has played a huge part in that.” – Parents of a Sixth Form leaver
