Claremont Fan Court School serves up tennis excellence with Esher Tennis Club
A winning double: Claremont Fan Court School, Esher serves up tennis excellence with Esher Tennis Club
As Wimbledon captures the imagination of tennis fans across southwest London, many young players will be inspired to pick up a racket and dream of emulating their sporting heroes. At Claremont Fan Court School in Esher, those first steps onto the court can become the start of a lifelong passion.
Through an exciting partnership with Esher Tennis Club, Claremont pupils benefit from expert coaching, competitive opportunities and a clear pathway for development, whether they are taking their very first swing or already demonstrating exceptional promise.
Sport has always played a central role in life at Claremont. Set within 100 acres of beautiful parkland, the school provides an exceptional environment in which children can be active, challenged and inspired. With all sports facilities located on site, including eight tennis courts, pupils enjoy regular access to high-quality facilities without ever needing to leave the school grounds.
The partnership with Esher Tennis Club brings another dimension to this sporting culture. From Reception onwards, pupils benefit from weekly coaching delivered by the club’s expert coaches, who lead curriculum sessions and co-curricular clubs throughout the school year. For some, it inspires a new passion, while for others, it is the opportunity to take their tennis to the next level as part of the school day.
Tennis at Claremont is designed to be inclusive, ambitious and enjoyable. A year-round programme provides coaching tailored to each stage of a child’s development, helping pupils build confidence, technique and match experience in a supportive environment.
For those with a competitive edge, opportunities extend beyond training sessions. Claremont pupils proudly represent the school in both Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Surrey League competitions, gaining invaluable experience through competitive match play while developing resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Claremont’s Strategic Directors of Sport, Miss Harfitt and Mr Rixon, explain:
“Our partnership with Esher Tennis brings an exciting new dimension to tennis at Claremont, elevating the quality of tennis training for every pupil, whether their interest is to develop competitively or simply to enjoy playing tennis for the love of the sport and its sociability. We want every pupil to have the opportunity to become the best tennis player they can be and to foster a lifelong enjoyment of the sport. As the school’s programme develops, Esher Tennis Club’s capacity and capability expand our offer both inside and outside of school and term time.”
The programme has been carefully structured to support every level of player. Younger pupils begin their journey through Rookie Tennis, building coordination, racket skills and confidence through fun, engaging sessions. As they progress, Challenger Tennis develops technical ability and match readiness, while aspiring team players can access focused coaching designed to prepare them for school fixtures and tournaments.
For pupils ready to progress further, the Hot Shots programme offers an even more advanced experience, with specialist coaching from elite-level trainers and opportunities for additional training at Esher Tennis Club.
The benefits of the partnership continue beyond term time. Claremont families enjoy discounts on Esher Tennis Club holiday camps, making expert coaching and enjoyable holiday activity even more accessible.
For families living in Wimbledon, Wimbledon Village and across southwest London and Surrey, Claremont is also remarkably accessible. From Year 3 onwards, pupils can make use of the school’s bus network, dedicated to Claremont pupils only, which connects a wide range of local communities directly to the school, making it easier than ever to take advantage of Claremont’s extensive academic, sporting and co-curricular opportunities.
Discover Claremont for yourself. Whether your child dreams of following in the footsteps of Wimbledon champions or simply enjoys being active outdoors, Claremont offers an outstanding education for girls and boys aged 2 to 18 in one of Surrey’s most beautiful school settings. With 100 acres of parkland and a wealth of sporting, academic and enrichment opportunities all on site, it is a place where children have the space to grow, discover and thrive.
