What do you love about Cheam and Surrey?

I absolutely love so many things, especially the lovely walks through beautiful scenery and the quaint charm of our pretty villages. But what warms my heart the most is the wonderful sense of community here. It’s amazing to see how much pride everyone takes in their homes! As I wander around, I’m always greeted with friendly smiles and cheerful nods from neighbours, which makes every stroll feel like a heart-warming connection. It truly brings a smile to my face!

Tell us about the wide range of properties available locally?

The property offerings vary greatly, featuring everything from cosy one-bedroom apartments perfect for singles or couples to sprawling nine-bedroom detached houses ideal for large families or those seeking ample space. Many of these properties are infused with charming character, showcasing unique architectural details and designs that set them apart and make each one a distinctive home. Such as the one pictured above: Charming Wildes Cottage, Cheam Village, 3 bedrooms, Freehold, £725,000 (January 2025).

How and why did you get into estate agency?

It all began quite by accident! Many years ago, I embarked on my career as an administrator. I found great satisfaction in my role, and my curiosity about the properties we had on the market continued to deepen. One fateful day, when the negotiator unexpectedly called in sick, my manager approached me with an unusual request: to conduct a property viewing. Stepping into that new role ignited a spark within me, and from that moment on, my passion for real estate flourished. I eagerly embraced the opportunity and gradually navigated through various positions within the company, ultimately working my way up to become the branch manager. Each step along the way only fuelled my enthusiasm for the industry and solidified my commitment to helping clients find their dream homes.

What’s the most popular property type in your area?

The most frequently requested property would be a detached house that offers character and ample space for a growing family. Four spacious bedrooms, ideally at least one ensuite. A garage is also on the tick list to accommodate vehicles and extra storage, or to be used as a workshop. Open-plan kitchen and dining area for hosting family get-togethers, plus separate reception rooms for both relaxation and privacy.

Most embarrassing  / funniest moment on a viewing?

During a house viewing, we had an unexpected visitor, a playful squirrel had somehow managed to get into the kitchen! When opening the door, it tried to run out of the kitchen, making a beeline for the exit! As the viewers were caught off guard, in a moment of panic the lady pushed her young daughter aside. The little girl stumbled onto a cabinet, sending a lit candle tumbling to the floor! Miraculously, no one was hurt, and we quickly sprang into action to contain the chaos. In a twist of fate, after that wild episode, the viewers decided they couldn’t resist and went ahead to buy the house!

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

I feel honoured to be part of people’s journey. Buying or selling a house is a monumental experience in anyone’s life, often filled with a whirlwind of emotions, both joyous and challenging. One of my favourite moments in this journey is when I get to hand over the keys to the new owners; it’s a symbolic gesture that marks the beginning of a new chapter for them. Many times, I am fortunate enough to receive invitations to return and witness the transformations that the new buyers make to their new home. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how they personalize the space, turning it into a warm and inviting sanctuary for their family.

How would you spend a day off in the area?

I start my day by heading to David Lloyd, where I immerse myself in the high-energy Blaze class. It’s a fantastic workout that really gets my adrenaline pumping and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. After the class, I make my way to the nearby shops to tackle my grocery shopping. Once I’ve filled my shopping basket, I meet up with my friends for a refreshing dog walk at Nonsuch Park. The park is always lively, and it’s lovely to catch up while our dogs run around and enjoy the open space.

What’s your favourite room in your home?

During the warm summer months, I spend most of my time in the kitchen/dining room. I like to open the French doors that lead out to our garden, allowing fresh air inside. I love natural sunlight and the vibrant colours of the garden.

When winter arrives, my preferences shift towards the lounge, which, although smaller, I enjoy the cosy space which is made even more comforting by the warmth of the log burner. I often light an array of scented candles that fill the air with soothing aromas, creating a perfect setting for relaxation.
