Brooklands spa review

Brooklands Hotel has just revamped its spa. We went for a test drive…

The spa at Brooklands Hotel has a rather unusually sited hot tub. And it’s brilliant. I’m not sure of anywhere else where you can sit in your swirling bubbles and look out over a race track.

The hotel is located alongside Mercedes-Benz World and Brooklands Motor Museum so it’s a perfect spot to please all: petrolhead or spa lover. The museum tells the story of motoring and aviation through history; Mercedes-Benz World offers racetrack driving experiences.

I’d wanted to try this famous hot tub for a while. I grew up in a household where the constant thrum of Top Gear or the Grand Prix blasted out on the TV. And so the idea of watching people whizz around the circuit while I was lounging around in a whirlpool was a big draw.

It didn’t disappoint. I could have stayed in a long while. But the newly renovated spa was also commanding my attention. There are Finnish and infra-red saunas, a steam room, and you can refresh with the fountain of crushed ice whenever the fancy takes you. But it was the Himalayan salt room that really worked for me. I felt cleansed, lighter somehow, and like I could really breathe deeply afterwards. There is also a Sunlight Therapy Room where you can relax on loungers with all the benefits of sunshine but without the risk of skin damage.

My first set of treatments was a back scrub followed by a massage. My skin looked and felt incredible, with the effects still visible even a week on. The massage was wonderful, I could have fallen asleep, and my knot of muscles afterwards were totally untangled.

I also had a 25-minute facial and I was really impressed with what could be achieved in that time with my face visibly clearer afterwards. The Comfort Zone range used is also really lovely – I have been using the moisturiser and serum since and I am won over. Afterwards, I got to chill in the meditation room where you can bliss out on a water bed in the darkened room.

When you can tear yourself away, there’s the promise of lunch. I went for a steak sandwich and fries – which came with some deliciously caramelised onion and perfectly crisp fries. On a sunny day, the roof of the restaurant retracts making it a very pleasant way to dine.

My guest and I agreed that it was the most relaxed we’d felt in ages. A great place to know, particularly if you are looking for somewhere to meet up with friends and family of different ages and interests. You’ll find me in the hot tub where I can enjoy the best of all worlds.
