Situated in the trendy Knightsbridge area of London, this quintessentially English hotel is the epitome of sophistication.
The spa, located on the 7th floor is a refreshing change to the same old basement-based ones that grace most hotels. The lobby and reception area are understated and, as one would expect have an aura of tranquillity.
The receptionist greeted me and ushered me through to the waiting area providing me with a few bottles of much-needed water (it was arguably the hottest day of the year and I was positively melting). After taking my medical history I was escorted into my room.
Tranquillity Ritual Treatment – aromatic well-being ritual for face and body 85 mins £140
Instantly transported into a world of peace, the room was darkened and lit by dancing (fake) candlelight mixed with the sounds of classical notes. The therapist; calm and professional, talked me through the treatment. I lay face down on the towel-wrapped bed and the ritual began. The technique used to smooth away the stresses of the day felt more like a carefully choreographed ballet performed across my body, which reached crescendo in time with the music. The use of different oils and lotions which all smelt amazing, added to the experience leaving me feeling like a new person. The facial left my skin glowing.
At £140 for the privilege of guilty pleasure, this does not come cheaply. However, is there a price you can put on 85 minutes of pure escapism? I thought not.
After the treatment I peeled myself off the bed and up to the roof-top swimming pool- the view looks out over Knightsbridge and on some occasions you will be relaxing with the likes of Sienna Miller. No, this isn’t your everyday treatment more, a well-deserved yearly treat.
